Children as young as 12 caught with child porn 13 Years, 10 Months ago
wonder what Pop's views are ?

this is pretty scary but at least the authorities are being sensible and not traumatizing these kids by dragging each one through the courts. loading them up with charges and turning them into lifetime "sex offenders"..that's what would happen in the USA.

There is no way the majority of 12 year olds could have any clue of the consequences of their actions. In fact we are attacking them for situations created by adults... mobile phones and the internet which wE insist they all are familiar with , without educating of the traps they may fall into.

Children as young as 12 caught with child porn

Thirteen West Australian teens have been charged with child pornography offences this year, according to police figures, up from eight at the same time last year, the Sunday Times reports.

Others have been charged over "sexting" offences where explicit photos of students are sent around.

Senior police say charges are laid in only the most extreme cases while the majority were referred to the Department of Child Protection.

The state's Police Minister Rob Johnson said kids did not understand the seriousness of sexting.

"Children don't see it as a crime and fail to grasp the consequences of their actions," Mr Johnson told the newspaper.

"They may think they are only sending an image to their boyfriend or girlfriend, but they could be sending that image to the world, which could have devastating long-term psychological effects."

Mr Johnson said parents need to be more aware of how their children use technology, especially mobile phones.

Thanks Veritas, from the report:

"They may think they are only sending an image to their boyfriend or girlfriend, but they could be sending that image to the world, which could have devastating long-term psychological effects."

Don't you think it's time people were called upon to explain remarks like this. It seems its become outré to ask. But just how exactly is the world receiving an image of what you look like with no clothes on as a child or teenager going to cause "devastating long-term psychological effects"?

Maybe I'm missing something.

Best Wishes,
Jim

I came across this interesting comment Weed-forums from user CaLiFornia:

"lol there 12.why would they wanna watch old people doing it?"

...which caused me to ponder whether there shouldn't be some sort of special adult pronography law for kids considering how perverted it would be for them to take an interest in adults. They should really be looking at child porn only.

The governing principle is that people should only be looking at porn appropriate for their own age group.

I think what is really untenable in this, as with paedohysteria in general, yet again, is the ambiguity on the issue of whether children can be sexual agents.

The whole industry thrives on a combination of tremendously confused, blurry thinking and a misplaced moral prurience.

Good point. I'm not sure how people can possibly predict what the 'long term affects' will be on someone.

If you tell these kids they have been 'dirty' and fill their heads with hang-ups I'm quite sure there will be long term affects. On the other hand if you treat the matter as a one off mistake, breaking the law... but can do better etc but don't have shame I'm sure that like all incidents that happen through childhood they will survive.

Do you ever look at photos of yourself as a child ?..I can't actually hold the concept that the person was actually me. It doesn't look like me and if my name wasn't on the back of the old snap I wouldn't know.

Do you think Marilyn Monroe or Joan Crawford worried about the porn films they made when they were younger ? If you have ever seen Monroe's it's difficult to tell it's her..just looks vaguely familiar.

The problem with a lot of lawmaking around the subject of children and sex is that authorities make laws based on their prejudices and not on fact or studies.

Even worse-they do what the tabloids tell them to.

My own view on this is that there is a big difference between child abuse and child porn and that the lines are often blurred, especially as the 'child' nears the age of consent. However, where there is a real and and unwilling victim and it is clearly a case of abuse (for example a 3 year old being raped) I believe that those abusers should be held accountable and those that knowingly obtain and store images of such abuse are morally reprehensible. I support laws against storing images for personal (gratuitous) viewing as I believe the alternative(a free market for child abuse images) is deeply disturbing.
With this in mind and turning my attention to the article, I wonder what sort of images were being viewed. Was it 'Lolita' style porn with willing albeit underage teens or was it graphic images of forcible rape of toddlers, obvious victims? The level of accountability/punishment would be determined by the level of abuse IMO
To illustrate:-
I would consider a child stealing a few sweets from a shop less serious than a child of the same age stealing wallets to order though both are technically theft.
