Still taking it all in (as there is quite alot to digest) but I initially feel that it is fair and reasonable.

You can clearly see the LibDem influence.

The scroungers are going to be squeezed, but everyone who works will be rewarded, and the taxes balanced fairly between the richest and poorest. Good to see pensioners (who have suffered badly under Nu Lie-Bour, with no real increases as their saving are slipping away) getting a better deal.

A good first budget considering the problems. A good balance between cutting costs and helping the poorest.

Worried a little by VAT going up next year - would have liked to have seen an attempt to claw back money by getting out of Military and EU commitments rather than taxing the UK public with such a large increase ( remember it was only 15% this time last year )

And i recall that the general public where unhappy that a 2.5% discount to 15% was negligible. That surely makes the 2.5% increase acceptable in my book. Its also easier to work out.
