TOPIC: How to sue the police?

How to sue the police? 13 Years, 10 Months ago
During my recent case a policeman was caught out lying on oath.
Because of this I spent 3 full nights in custody, and had to endure a further 12 hours later in the month as they added charges.

The local solicitors are not interested, can I get legal aid? Also what about official complaints to the police? How are these done?

If we don't kick up a fuss then these actions will copntinue,so any practical ideas welcome.

Thanks

not sure about this one and the law in Oz is virtually identical to UK.

Police lie so often in court and when caught little seems to happen.

I guess the context is needed..did he lie and the barrister was able to show it ? Perhaps a complaint to the the relevant police body is needed.

Perhaps you would receive no satisfaction but no copper wants bad things on his record.

When I was 19 I was a witness to friends being arrested on Portobello Rd..one a clown busker. The police all lied and eventually the case was thrown out in Knightsbridge.

The main lying copper said to outside the court "oh we are never right until you need us blah blah.." and it was infuriating that it had gone on so long ( except I got 150 pounds witnesses fee..huge sum then) but 3 months later I read he was drummed out of the force for corruption..

So annoying that they lie..I'd have full respect for the cops when they do the right thing.

For me, ACCOUNTABILITY (in Police, Judiciary and other areas) is a vital necessity for the coalition to bring in but you're right; not only do they lie (and lie and lie) but even when exposed in court, it has no effect on juries.

In my case, the boot faced lady officer swore on oath she never discussed compensation with the claimants, one of whom then, under oath, said she discussed it at length with him.

Made no difference to the jury.

Ring the IPCC and get a form.

Sad to say sueing the Police for compensation does not happen very often because if it did the State would be bankrupt after a month of Police work.

The POLICE are well known for never telling the truth. They lie all the time under oath - because it is part of their job to say "the right thing" and most of them dont believe in God in any case. So they might as well be swearing an oath with their fingers crossed behind their back.

The media seems to let the Police get away with this - and the Police because they get away with it - do it even more.

Good luck with what you eventually decide to do.

I have numerous apology letters from the Police for things they have done to me that have been illegal and wrong. I have never sued them because it is not worth my time and they are not worth it and without legal aid I probably would not win a court case either........

Very sad state of affairs.

If I were you I would put clear blue water between yourself and the legal system now. Get away - start your life over - and be thankful you won the case. That ultimately is your biggest win over the liars.
