Favourite holiday comments - enormously fat woman in Rome Hilton pool to very small child "If you sit on Mummy, Mummy will sink to the bottom and never come up again".
How to terrify offspring in one sentence!

Young Tunisian customs official looking at Martin Chuzzlewit paperback... "What is this?".
"A Book".
"What is it for?".
"For reading".
"Why?".

it's the 'why' that made me spew my coffee, it's almost absurdist
