Again we must ask ourselves why this happened.
We need a full investigation into earlier police behavior, and also into their incompetence during their search for him.

IMO, the main question will be - 'why was this very disturbed person allowed out of prison?'

The whole incident from start to finish has been tragic for loads of people. Very sad and reflects very badly on our society - our Police - our justice system.

Dreadful.

Along with the Derek Bird rampage it shows how broken our society really is and how many people are basically breaking down inside with no hope.

The media exacerbated the situation, with Sky news being the main culprits as usual. This could have had a peaceful conclusion if the media had been forced to back off. Hysteria and mayhem were allowed to ensue on yet another no news week. I don't believe he made any threats to the wider public. But whoever put that falsehood out immeditaely made the situation more dangerous. Bastards! I for one am not going to leap up and down with joy at the death of Moat. It is very sad.

RIP. Let's hope his death wasn't in vain.

I also hope a proper investigation is launched as to whether he did indeed shoot himself. And pigs might fly.

@Martha I'd also like to know if his girlfriend will be charged with something for telling him that her new boyfriend was the very policeman who had had him put away.

I lay in bed last night and said a prayer for Mr Moat. I feared that he wouldn't make it through the night whether it was up to him or the Police. RIP.

You are very kind person, Angel.

I too was surprised that it went on that long ... I thought the police would want to put a stop before it went dark.

However, regarding Moat, everything about him "said" thug - he had the typical stereotype "bouncer" look, was obviously into heavy weight-training and had had numerous convictions (including, it has been announced tonight, having been questioned about a previous murder in 2000).

BUT ... I do not have much sympathy either for the "girlfriend" and feel that there will be alot more to come out about this story in the coming weeks.

Girlfriend lies to boyfriend in order to split. No crime there, it happens every day. Given his background you can understand why she did.

Tragic tho this is for Moat and his victims, let's not make him into some kind of hero or try to justify his acts.

I cried this morning for Mr Moat. For what these animals had forced him to do and how they had hunted him down and assassinated him.

This is so sad - so tragic.

His girlfriend should be charged with PERVERTING THE COURSE OF JUSTICE because by her lies there are several dead people now including her boyfriend and Mr Moat. She LIED to be big and clever - and look what the consequences have been.

This is what happens when CHAV clever types try to pervert the truth - loads of people get hurt.

This is an awful awful story which is a STAIN on our country and on our POLICE.

Girlfriend tells boyfriend that policeman who had him banged-up is now shagging her.

It has a different "ring" to it when seen that way round.

Indeed, it calls for a further evaluation of the original crime and the subsequent investigation does it not?

Surely the policeman could have seen the implications of this.

"A relative of Moat who has seen post-mortem results told the BBC there was no mention of marks on his body from Taser stun guns police fired at him".

Are the police STILL trying to manipulate the facts of this case (and if so, what have they got to hide?)

So the girlfriend tells her ex, somebody who by your own admission was 'deeply disturbed', that she's dumped him for the same copper who had him put behind bars.

Given his background, you can understand why he did what he did.

I wonder if the family of chris brown agree with your assesment?

Sounds like she was trying to twist the knife in rather than keep him away from her. Should be a breach of the peace minimum, perhaps incitement or accessory to murder.

Northumbria police have habit of using Tasers 13 Years, 9 Months ago
Northumbria Police recently topped a league for the number of incidents in which a taser was aimed or used.

It reported even more incidents involving stun guns than the Metropolitan Police which covers a population more than five times larger.

Figures released last summer showed Northumbria Constabulary, which covers a population of around 1.4 million people, had recorded 704 incidents in which a taser was used in some way, even if it was only aimed.

The statistics had been for the period between April 2004 and August 2009.

The Metropolitan Police, which covers a population of more than 7.4 million, recorded 700 taser incidents.

More family members call for an inquiry into death 13 Years, 9 Months ago
But Angus Moat said of his younger brother: "He was a mentally ill man under a lot of stress who cracked, and it was just the final straw.

"His actions, although I appreciate were absolutely horrendous, and although I wish he hadn't gone ahead and done what he did, were a cry of anguish.

"It was a cry of pain. The media have been bigging him up as a kind of Rambo type character. It's crazy."

He also criticised the police for their use of Taser stun guns, which is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Northumbria Police admitted that Tasers were used twice during the stand-off.

Angus Moat said: "It's chucking it down with rain, it's a really heavy rainstorm, he's on a grassy bank, he's soaked to the skin in non-water-proofed clothing and he's got a gun to his head.

"If you hit him with a Taser he's going to go into involuntary spasms. If he's got his finger on the trigger, that spasm will possibly involuntarily pull that trigger.

"Perhaps those Tasers, rather than stopping him taking his own life, may have caused it.

"He may not have meant to take his own life. He may not have meant to have died."
