I'm having similar trouble (not as dramatic) trying to convince the local cops to help me take out an AVO on behalf of an 87 year old who is being plagued by a pest.

The police are hopeless...have been very nice and helpful but they simply don't understand the law. I know more than them.

I was speaking to a chamber magistrate the other day about this and he told me the tale...which I partly knew.

The police in this state were the most corrupt on the planet (slight exageration) until the head of the Hendon Police Training Centre was hired as Police Commissioner to rid the cops of corruption. He did a brilliant job (and at the same time standards started to drop in the UK.

Eventually after 6 years he was driven out of town by Murdoch tabloids. Now police recruits do 6 weeks training and 60% leave the force after one year.

Not only does it show the Police have lost all recognition of crime but "Domestic" disputes fanned by Family Courts and compensation payments are becoming ever more bitter.

There are more killings due to these types of disputes than any other - the MOAT rampage being an example.

Until we reform the way that Marriages are treated by Courts - and probably Marriage should not be a Court Case and Custody should be joint unless there are serious convictions against one or other of the parties involved. How can a JUDGE decide who should live with who ? It is time to put back the responsibility with families.

In addition when people break up there needs to be more counselling available for such things and it should be seen as positive not negative to take up such things.

Our Society is breaking down - with many people now out of work or working in part time jobs and supported by the benefits system.

Sadly more of these incidents are going to happen every week as I said a month ago after the MOAT incident.

So far we have seen a killing every week......

that is on Oz...no they all seem to be very young (or is that me) and extremely well mannered now but the pay is bad and they get batter jobs.

(the motor cycle ones seem to stay forever..and you see them up at the gay pubs in Oxford St )

Of course a magistrate can exagerate as well. We were in a pub!

Fortunately Commander Ryan who rid NSW of the crooks is back in the UK. A man of immense integrity. honesty and highly moral. Sadly he is no longer a copper but head of Olympic security. At least you will be safe if you go to the games.
I think you can date the time of the plunge in police training standards to when he left Hendon.

In the UK they get outrageous salaries - so you never see them leaving.

Earning just as a Bobby around £50K with bonuses and overtime ( Treble time ) and with up to 6 months off as well. Some of them commute from Spain !! because they dont have to work that many days a year - just put in 12 - 14 hour shifts for a couple of weeks then get a couple of weeks off.

This is why Policing is so disjointed in the UK. If you make a complaint then it may be 6 months before you can get hold of the same officer again. Total waste of time.
