Oliver Twist/David Lean 13 Years, 8 Months ago
Watching it for the hundredth time, still amazed by the brilliance of the murder of Nancy scene; not one shot of blood; simply the dog trying to scrabble out of the door in panic; sheer genius, you could almost feel the blows.

Recently watched Dr Zhivago (on Blu Ray of course). David Lean shot the cavalry massacre in a similarily almost bloodless way. You just see Omar Sharifs reaction to what he is seeing in the street below his balcony with just the one splash of blood in the snow. Another magnificent hi def transfer from Warner too. Anyone who doubts that Blu Ray is superior should check out the standard definition clips of the film on the documentary on the same disc. Dr Zhivago has never looked so wonderful. In adjusted dollars the eighth highest grossing movie of all time. I didn't know that.
