He should have had a 10 year driving ban - that was what would protect others.

If he decides he wants to take drugs and live like an idiot - then that is his choice as an adult. 60% of the uK population take drugs of one sort or another - and the rest drink alcohol !

It is easy to get on our "high horses" and say he should go to jail - but you dont jail someone for 4 weeks and expect that to cure them ?

Hasn't he had - and ignorred - a ban previously ?

People can take as many drugs as they want - but NOT when they put others at risk.

I never said prison would "cure" him - in fact I said the reverse ! - but I think depriving him of his liberty, even for such a short time, may make him think twice in future.

This is NOT about drugs - or freedom to do as you wish - it's a safety issue.

Ah BR, these days A Good Story is all that matters to "Justice".

I know - you have been right all along about this. But it still makes it hurt for those of us who were taught about how fair and democratic our Country actually was.

I watched some of the War Programmes on SKY ARTS last week - and it showed how admired the UK and our Police were from around the World - it showed them in action and how brave and how fair they were......

It was like watching another country......

The POLICE have decided to become ROBOCOPS based on the model of Hollywood films. They think they are "Badass" cops and the "kids" think they are gangsters......the truth is that they are all soft and normal.....I told one long term criminal in Pentonville this ( yes he could have hit me ! but to be fair to him he listened ) and he actually agreed - but he basically said he had very little choice in his lifestyle now......which is sad. He had talent and wanted to be successful but saw crime as the only way.....

Of course crims keep the Police in work - so they keep letting them out !!! Innocent people like VICARS and GEORGE MICHAEL ( driving is not a crime unless you actually hurt someone ) should not be put in prison.....or teachers .....or Music impressarios or writers......

Prison needs to be restored to its orginal use - protecting the public from DANGEROUS AND VIOLENT criminals. Only people who fit this description should find themselves behind bars at great public expense.

I'm astonished there haven't been false accusers (I gather there are dozens for all celebrities these days) and suspect they will emerge sooner rather than later.

As for prison; I actually disagree BR - in my experience it's the short, sharp shock of jail that impacts and that dies away as the dull monotony of prison life takes grip.

having worked with him in his Wham days he was so freaked out that he would be discovered he hardly had a sex life.

Doesn't stop the false accusers of course.

I think BR is right..community service properly applied is surely better than a useless jail sentence.

(unlike Boy George who is handy with his fists..George may have to get a minder inside)
