More insidiously, as the Civitas study Licensed to Hug observes, we are developing a unhealthy culture of suspicion that discourages adults from stepping in to help children in trouble for fear of being considered a potential molester and reported to the police. Increasingly we live in a society where adults distrust each other and children are taught to regard everyone with suspicion, apart from their immediate family members (who are often the people who cause them greatest harm). The vetting scheme further undermines the concept that the best protection for children is the vigilance of other adults. Moreover, a Big Society based on a culture of mutual suspicion is doomed from the outset.

Absolutely spot-on !

Most people are TERRIFIED of kids if they meet them on the street - most people look away and most people now ignore kids if they are spoken to by kids for fear of hassle.

Every adult in the UK is a Paedophile according to the Police and Justice System - though the real prolific offenders seem to never reach court at all because of "Lack of evidence" often when they have children with children and so on........

The vetting system has destroyed any sort of trust. No one without the SLIP OF PAPER is now trusted and to be fair it is not worth the paper it is printed on.

The CRB check should be only about convictions - the enhanced CRB should only apply to FULL TIME WORKERS with children like Teachers - Nursery Workers. Ordinary people who come into contact with children need to be trusted until they have been CONVICTED - which is how this country used to operate.

Has the CRB system meant sexual offences have gone down ? Since 2003 the only part of the Justice System which has shown great growth is//////SEXUAL OFFENCES proving that CRB checks have done nothing to stem these types of problems - if anything a PAEDO carrying a CRB check certificate is more dangerous than any person who is not checked.

Time to review the system - and to stop pretending that pieces of paper can stop Paedos from their desires.
