TOPIC: Spooks beaten by Banks
#63218
Spooks beaten by Banks 13 Years, 7 Months ago
The depressing ITV cop show got 5.6 million as opposed to the 5 million for Spooks - I wonder whether the Spooks habit of killing off most of the cast is having a bad effect? Only Harry and Ruth remain - many of us miss Malcolm, Connie, Ros and some of the other stalwarts.
What started as a brilliant, original and unexpected twist might be detracting from popularity.

I'm still loving it though.

Traitors like Connie has to go and there are the inevitable casualties of war. Replacement actors (including guest actors like Hugh Laurie and Robert Hardy) have been top class giving the episodes a freshness. Story lines are believable and series 9 beats '24' for longevity; '24' being the extremely popular US equivalent.

(P.S. Tariq is a better analyst than Malcolm!)

And if you ARE Tariq's Mum - he's definitely far more gorgeous than Malcolm!

I still love spooks but its not the same as it was. I still miss Tom and Zoe and the delicious Danny. I'm already fed up of the storyline of Lucas's old flame. I just know its going to end in tears.

I was very disappointed in Banks but I know I'm spoiled as I have read the book. TV adaptations are rarely as good as the books. Although I'm looking forward to the Thorne series starting on sky soon. fingers crossed.

BTW I'd forgotten all about this forum and havent been on for ages. Glad I found it again!

Welcome back Pixie and NEVER FORGET US AGAIN!

I'm slightly annoyed by Spooks too; I loved the old Home Secretary and felt there could have been a cleverer use of him; I miss Adam, Ros and most of all Malcolm who I adored whilst thinking Tariq has loads of potential; I'm not much interested in Lucas for some reason.

I love Harry (I saw Harry's penis when he was a young lad... starring nude in Equus on stage) and wish Connie could return from the grave.

I found the Banks show deeply depressing; Tomkinson has gone right off since BallyKissAngel and Wild At Heart.

Thank you! You lucky thing. I love Harry and find all the stiff upper lip, repressed passion business with him and Ruth fantastic. It would probably be a huge let down if they ever did get together.

I appreciate that a job and a show like this has a rapid turnover of staff but none of the replacements seem to have the vavavoom of some of the previous ones. Yes I liked Malcolm's dry wit and at least he's not dead so he could possibly come back. Ditto Tom and Zoe who left but didnt die. But we've learned from Ros's previous experience that dying doesnt rule out coming back. So I'll hope and pray for Danny to come back
