anyone want a petulant fat bald footballer ? 13 Years, 6 Months ago
At a news conference at Old Trafford, the manager told reporters: "I had a meeting with him. He intimated to me in his own way (***) that he wanted to leave.

"We are as bemused as anyone can be, we can't quite understand why he would want to leave."

Rooney's current contract expires in 2012 and there had been widespread speculation the star striker did not want to sign a new deal with the club.

(***) Monosyllabic grunts ?

Rooney is far too thick to go abroad. Clubs in Spain or Italy would expect him not only to learn the language, but also cut out the chips and booze diet.

Odd though that Rooney was deemed to be one the best players in the world at the end of a brilliant 2009/2010 season - just before the World Cup.

By Hansen, Shearer, Sports writers, players et al.

Shouldn't he learn his own first ?

I love the way Sir Alec says he "intimated to me in his own way" ... how was that done ?

Semaphore ? Morse Code ? Grunting noises ?

Note, Trudy .... all British !

How many "best players" can go to TWO World Cups, and not only fail to score any goals at all, but also play so badly ?

Amazingly, this lumpy buffoon is not yet 25! He looks about 35! His face looks like a dirty potato that's been scratched by a cat. Horrid.

No. Not all British.

For example, Rooney came 10th in the 2009 FIFA Player of the Year awards.

That is 10th in the world!

You misunderstand, Trudy .... I meant all the "experts" you mention are British (and so desperate for a British "best player" they choose one which cannot score goals ! LOL )

He may not be suave, bright, educated, articulate, good looking or a role model. But he's been picked for this planet's first team.

We were talking about World Cups ... where he has consistently failed to score, and also played badly.

George Best never scored in a World Cup and he was the best player ever! Just another similar example (of many) is Ryan Giggs.

Rooney has scored 175 goals in about 400 top class games. Not bad?

Martha

Years ago I said (on this board) that Rooney was simply another Gazza ... and he will end up just the same (in the gutter).

Those who can see something to admire in a fat, monosyllabic, illiterate, imbecile - who shows no loyalty to his team, country or club - have my sympathy.

By the way: Kenny Dalglish should be knighted. It's long overdue.

Your view, but real football talent transcends these attributes - ON the field, ITK.

EUEFA and FIFA ratings/rankings are the prime indicators as are the goal scoring/assists ratios.

You obviously do not like him; but wait for the £50m+ bids....

For what?

The guy he replaced (K Keegan) was European Footballer of the Year twice!

For winning European Cups, league titles, FA cups and the Double, for being one of the most-capped players in British history, for being one of the best players ever (George Best put him on a par with di Stefano) and for behaving with such extraordinary grace and compassion after Hillsborough (which all bust destroyed him). All of his great achievements came without resorting to the bitterness, bullying and hatred employed by Alistair Campbell's buddy Alex Ferguson. (As much as I like and admire Keegan, you're in a very tiny minority indeed if you think he's anywhere close to Dalglish as a player or manager.)
