I wonder if the vigilante groups outside his house last night made him change his mind ?

Seeing as he was never going to cope with a foreign language and culture, but wanted even bigger wages than he already gets, his options were basically Chelsea or Manchester City, but Chelsea has no need of him, so it was down to City or staying put. Yet another boneheaded error by Cro Magnon Man with a Dunce Hat.

Perhaps not. This was a simple ploy by Rooney and his agent to get more money by saying he was leaving. It worked, the offer - on the table - was increased.

This ploy is not unusual when bargaining from a position of strength (when you're needed or wanted) - in sport or the media. (I'm sure JK, in his heyday, would have used the same ploy, at times!)

I rather gather - from internet gossip - that the fans don't want him anymore.

Why would they want someone who is not a team player and simply out for himself?

I see his "mentor" Gazza is now just one step away from jail - having been arrested with class A drugs (while on bail for a drink-driving offence, which the Judge advised him would probably see him jailed).

All players are concerned with themselves first - and the team second. Like most of us!

Careers are short and the best must be made of them.

Few, like Gary Winston Lineker OBE, will have two careers...

At £230,000 a week (as reported in today's Daily Express) the career can be as short as it likes !

Greed ! Greed ! Greed ! (at a time when the rest of us face cuts to services etc.)

I'm astonished (well, realising that football fans are thick, not actually) that football fans like being ripped-off like this.

Interesting reading -

"United's image could also be in serious danger of being affected by the saga. Many feel their willingness to bend to Rooney's demands in a way the club has never done before for any player is unbecoming for a club of their stature.

Rooney might have joined Manchester City to the distaste of United's followers, but at least their pride and trust in the integrity of the club would have been preserved.

Many feared that if Rooney was allowed to leave, despite what he said this week, United's standing in the game would suffer. By allowing him to stay, the damage done could in fact be much worse".
