Not good news at all.

The economic miracle of construction is going to help no one except a few property developers and a few East European builders !!!

We need some recovery for the rest of us.....

Exactly. We're drinking more wine than the French now. Beer is soooo last century.

very insightful Ms Minge.

Proves my point again (and I think Angel you may find wine sales are down as well)....you cannot suddenly take or announce you are taking a huge sum of the spending power of people out of the system without serious ramifications.

Be scared...if the chavs don't have their beer they will go on the rampage. Even Caesar knew that !

there should be free beer !

It's when vodka sales go down that the drinks industry should worry. (That reminds me: why DOES the Government always attempt to discourage binge drinking by hiking up the price of things like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon? Most of the drunken youths who fill up our A&E centres during the early hours are off their heads on various types of vodka. Cut the prices of good wine and slap an enormous increase on vodka. Job done!)

Most pubs that rely on their beer sales are doomed to fail - it's food and B&B that makes the money

Last year the government in Russia contemplated putting the price of a bottle of vodka up from 90c to $2 and then wisely decided against it.

it would have caused a second Russian revolution.
