This has long bemused me. The media now use "woman" as an adjective, as in "woman reporter" or "woman newsreader", while they continue to use "male" as an adjective. Why the inconsistency? "Female" sounds to me far better, anyway, as well as more consistent. Is it some weird political correctness? No one would say "man reporter", but they happily say "woman reporter". It just jars with me.
Well that sounds better! I think in this country most who make the distinction think it's because it must be 'proper' but they don't know why - like most English customs! I find it very clumsy.
