Dirk Gently great fun on BBC4 13 Years, 4 Months ago
Very witty script based on a Douglas Adams story - excellent casting too (Doreen Mantle wonderful).

Enjoyed it too. But, as always, it's a drama that really deserved an extra 15 or 30 minutes. We didn't see enough of Dirk's quirkyness that Douglas Adams put into the two books he featured in. The reasons why he is like he is, things seemed a little rushed at times as if "well the people watching this have read the book anyway".

Pity they couldn't use Professor Chronotis either, but sadly that is tied up with Doctor Who. Adams wrote the first Dirk Gently based on a script for Who called 'Shada' and set at St Cedds College, Cambridge. They did all the exterior work, the BBC went on strike and sadly it was not completed. The music producer Ian Levine is however trying to get an animated version of it together though, using most of the surviving cast (sans Tom Baker).

Agree. Touches of (new) Sherlock Holmes crossed with Dr Who, I thought.
