My view that the prisons are full of generally mentally ill people, homeless, foreigners, and political prisoners is certainly shown to be true from these figures.

If someone is a hardened criminal with over 15 crimes to their name then why are they not the ones going to prison ? we see on a daily basis teachers and pop stars being jailed the very first time they appear in court ( often without any evidence ) yet real criminals are protected by the system.

Our criminal justice system seems to punish the innocent and spare the guilty. This has to be intentional - and it is probably in order to keep a supply of work for the Police who are overstaffed and the criminal element of society is extremely small. There are probably more Police in the UK than criminals.

BR, I would welcome you back but I think your posts are so idiotic and biased I wish you had stayed away. I am going to make a New Years resolution to not waste time responding to your stupid twisted assertions but in the meantime here's my response to your latest anti establishment rant.

The point of the story is that the prisons are full and as such they cannot accommodate as many new prisoners as the would like so some repeat offenders who would otherwise be jailed are being given non custodial sentences. Look at the source, its a pretty standard Daily Express story pandering to their view of what they think their readers want. You have taken the story and concluded that the guilty can't be imprisoned because the prisons are full of people who shouldn't be there. Why would you think innocent people are being intentionally convicted to provide work for the police when the story itself states tat there are hardened criminals that aren't being jailed. If you have come back to statements such as -

"Our criminal justice system seems to punish the innocent and spare the guilty. This has to be intentional and it is probably in order to keep a supply of work for the Police who are overstaffed and the criminal element of society is extremely small. There are probably more Police in the UK than criminals."

......then I for one hope you stay away.

BTW - It is good to see you are not using caps anymore.

But BR makes an important point. Prisons in the UK, Australia and the USA are crammed with mentally ill people who should not be there.

Any prison warder or policeman will tell you they are fed up with having to deal with the mentally ill because governments have abrogated their responsibility.
