while the other is actively encouraged to "tell their story".

After all, we've seen (with Iraq) that if you tell lies often enough, there are gullible people who will actually believe it (for awhile).

Austria's former President ! 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Waldheim had unsuccessfully sought election as President of Austria in 1971, but his second attempt on June 8, 1986, proved successful. 1986 also marked the beginning of what became known as the Waldheim affair. Before the presidential elections, the Austrian weekly news magazine Profil revealed that there had been several omissions about Waldheim's life between 1938 and 1945 in his recently-published autobiography.

A short time later, it was revealed that Waldheim had lied about his service as an officer in the SA-Reitercorps (Stormtroopers - Cavalrycorps), a paramilitary unit of the NSDAP (Nazi Party) before the war, and his time as an ordinance officer in Saloniki, Greece from 1942 to 1943.

It is known and documented that many crimes against civilians were committed during the military occupation of Greece. Instead, Waldheim had stated that he was wounded and had spent the last years of the war in Austria. Speculation grew, and Waldheim was accused of being either involved, or complicit, in war crimes.

Throughout his term as President (1986-1992), Waldheim, and his wife, Elisabeth, were deemed personae non gratae by many countries. In 1987, they were put on a watch list of persons barred from entering the United States. In 6 years Waldheim made almost no state visits.

Because of the ongoing international controversy, the Austrian government decided to appoint an international committee of historians to examine Waldheim's life between 1938 and 1945. Ultimately, the committee found no evidence of Waldheim's involvement in war crimes, but its final report stated that he must have known more than he was now willing to admit.

I don't think I agree that Tony Blair is a "terroist". I am a strong Labour supporter and supported the war in Iraq, bit I am also certain that the tories or lib dems would have done the same thing (despite what Charile Kennedy says) if they were running the country.

I don`t agree Blair is a terrorist either Lenny, but I cannot support war of any kind. This eye for an eye ethic in the human race, will eventually destroy it.I do not know of any person who has an answer to this, all I can add is an opinion, everytime , this country goes to war, I hang my head in shame.
Which then brings you into another debate of how much employment the forces create.....

would you hang your head in 1939? 18 Years, 2 Months ago
or the Spanish civil war?

some wars are justified because they fight evil.

Austria has these laws because they do not want a democratically elected nazi party again. Thank god for small mercies

Speaking of "freedom of speech", didn't Irving sue an American publisher for libel?

How does that fit into the freedom of speech mantra?

When does freedom of speech become inciting violence?

When the speech you make actually incites someone to commit violence - not when you are just questioning the validity of claims made by the other side !
