Sort of ties up with what JK has been saying about the mindless instant soma gratification culture.

A growing number of music-lovers unhappy about the way album tracks are enjoyed in a pick-and-mix fashion have decided to take action.

The rules are strict. No talking. No texting. You must listen to every song on the album.

Classic Album Sundays treat our best-loved records like great symphonies and are being set up in London, Scotland and Wales.

Groups of music fans sit in front of a vinyl turntable, with the best speakers they can afford, dim the lights and listen to a classic album all the way through.

As I write this I have 3 browser windows open and 16 tabs displaying. One of my new years resolutions is to sit down and read two novels each month and listen to at least one complete album or symphony each week. And really listen, as in the sunday record club.

It sounds ghastly to be quite honest, the kind of snobbery which seriously deserve to have it's throat repeatedly stamped upon. I can just imagine the idiots sitting there trying to out-concentrate each other. If you are incapable of listening to something properly on your own in the privacy of your own home why in Christ's name would you feel capable of it in a room full of fellow smug, egotistical culture vultures keen to show how utterly seriously they take their music. Doesn't this sound awfully like some twisted form of group therapy?

Hi All,

I think the BBC article made it sound all a bit serious... It's a members club, so those are the rules for that club... not all. I say, if you want to pee... go pee!
I created a site for anyone wishing to start or join a vinyl record club ..... slow take up at the mo, maybe that means it's not a good idea, but I agree with JK and listening to albums in this way with a few people who enjoy the same sort of music is nothing new.
