The story of how Murdoch got to takeover the NoTW is a good example of how the man operates.
When he wanted to buy NoTW he was forbidden to take money out of Australia and the then PM Sir John Gorton refused to relax currency controls for him.
He did a deal with the leader of one party that Gorton was in a coalition with. That leader brought on a party room spill.
On the day of the party room vote Murdoch ran an "expose' in the only national newspaper (owned by him).
It said Gorton was best pals (which he was ) with a journalist known as a 'communist' who was being investigated by the secret services as a spy.
It was basically a fabrication and beat-up but it worked-Gorton lost by one vote and the new PM immediately relaxed currency controls.
That's how he works-ditch a PM if it's good business for Murdoch and bugger everyone else !
