Sickening little gobshite joining a plastic club with plastic fans. And he's injury ridden. Enjoy.

It's interesting, don't you think, that while we're all screaming about bankers' bonuses we raise not so much as half an eyebrow over the obscene amounts of cash being passed from one grubby hand to another in the unaccountably "important" world of football. We're so stupid that we greet with glee the fact that someone can pay fifty million quid {plus whatever completely inordinate sum they're proposing to pay the bloke every week} for a guy to kick a ball about for not even one half of a Saturday afternoon at a time. This the news media tell us, in glowing terms of approval, despite the fact that here's no public benefit to accompany this outrage to anyone feeling the pinch of these straitened times, no return at all beyond that afforded to pointless, ugly tribalism masquerading as "sport".
Here's the rationale:

Bankers = bad, even though you've got at least some chance of getting your money back}.

Footballers = good, but you have no chance of any personal benefit at all apart from drooling over the "celeb" life you imagine they and their glamorous "Wags" live. Which, come to think about it, seems to be just about all that matters these days.

Here's where the bankers went wrong. Had they employed Max Clifford to tell us all that they're celebs - maybe got the occasional wife to give Sun readers the odd flash of knickers or the occasional nipslip - and they wouldn't be in the doo doos now. They'd be whacking each other over the head with £50,000,000 notes in a communal bath in Canary Wharf, buying the services of the lowest class of prostitute imaginable and shovelling coke up their noses with the best of 'em. And we'd be lapping it up, grinning and slobbering admiringly at each and every one of them for being so completely worth every penny.

People wonder why I have no time for British Public Opinion. And maybe you're right, I'm twisted and cynical. But it seems like, at least in the first category, I'm not alone.

What crazy, double standards we have.
We deserve everything we get.
