I reckon if you asked normal Libyans 80% would say they wish it could return to 6 weeks ago. Freedom is all well and good; bread and water is better. But the media rules - blood and death is a far better story.
Will the evacuees from Libya be asked to contribute towards the vast expense of their evacuation? It was their choice to go there presumably, lured by tax incentives etc.
As it gets nastier and nastier, I hear reports of burnings and anarchy in Tunisia and further murders in Egypt. Protests to get freedom and democracy seem to end in more unrest, inequality, looting and killing - and the vast majority of decent human beings, unwilling to obey the media agenda to supply "a good story" by staying at home and keeping their heads down, quietly starve to death.
Now we see the media - unable to take as complex a view as to examine both sides - utterly condemning Gaddafi and repeating every vile adjective about him as though the other side were the heroes ("fighting for freedom and democracy") and the evil Dictator must be over thrown. Am I being cynical or am I right to despair of the media's assumption that we are all one dimensional idiots or are they right - we are incapable of understanding complexity?
