those savage cuts and the British police 13 Years, 2 Months ago
watching a program tonight on 'Dateline'..an excellent local program on the very good Special Broadcasting Service (government channel)

All about cuts in the UK to student services, social security etc.

Another great failure of Cameron and the usless Lib Dems. If they had brought in rent controls at the same time it may have worked. Recipe for chaos. Any money saved will be spent by future governments four times over trying to cure the social damage caused. Which is what is happening now..the result of Thatcherism.

An arrogant pig of a police commander..highly insulting about the students...scathingly commenting that they simply want to cause havoc and scuttle back to their squats !.

He should be frog-marched out of the force. He typifies what is sooo wrong with the English police..arrogant, fascistic and blindly pandering the government line yet completely unable to maintain law and order unless putting the truncheon in.

The only miracle is that there haven't been more Brazilian electricians or newspaper sellers murdered by the plods.

####plus a miracle drink in the Amazon jungle..Irawoska !!..cures everything. Will be banned.

We've been here before veritas - when you have the bailiffs at the door (thanks to Loony Labour encouaging scroungers) you simply HAVE to stop spending.

Labour would now be doing EXACTLY the same (though of course they deny it !!!) - everyone from the IMF to the Bank of England says the government are doing the right thing.

are you calling pensioners scroungers ?

simple solution.. make the scroungers who profit in the UK pay the correct tax.

A start would be News Corp who headquartered in a variety of tax havens and shifts it's profits around to create the false impression of a loss. Unless you prefer Murdoch to use British taxpayers to fund his enterprises elsewhere.

The law should be..you trade in the UK only via a UK registered entity with government inspections of books to ensure 'creative' bookeeping accounting is verboten. Or piss off from one of the best markets in the world when you claim you will move off-shore and try and generate the same profits in Pakistan.

Yes..Nu Labour would do the same and continued the ruinous policies of Thatcher..except the did it on steroids.

My real complaint though is a representative of the Met refering to legitimate students and their complaints as 'troublemakers living in squats' in such an insulting manner to an international audience.

Well said veritas.

If we concentrated more on collecting the taxes due we would have less need for cuts.
of course labour were bad in government, but nothing so far has shown me these plonkers are any better,in fact by targeting the poor without due regard for the long term consequences shows me they haven't learnt the lessons of the first Thatcher administration at all.

no we haven't been here before. The corporate scroungers have never had it so easy and have been getting away without paying their fair share for decades.

One obvious aspect is the housing supplement. Admitedly driven high by (Nu) Labour but it helped create a false property economy by driving up property prices to rediculous levels.

So property scroungers have supped at the welfare teet for decades increasing their wealth courtesy of the waged taxpayer. Now that subsidy to the unemployed/pensioners etc is being slashed but only for them..not landlords. Rent controls should have been brought in at the same time but a Conservative government will not do that as they are their constituency.

Just as Labour turned it's back on it's supporters...wage earners, unions...the Cons abandoned their constituents..normally small business to take up the mantle of the carpet baggers like property gamblers (the most unproductive industry in the country).

One idiotic council officer said those having their rent support slashed (100%) should "re-negotiate their rent with landlords or seek cheaper rents elsewhere it may be cheaper".

Modern day "On Yer Bike" madness.

The result in about 4 years will be an almighty property slump..just as happened in Thatcher's time...certainly been there before.

To get back to the subject ...

Today police PR machines are in overdrive -

our forces are being cut !

Our perks are being taken away!

They are stopping our boneses!
(what are they being paid a bonus for, exactly?

Didn't I read that 10% of the police were never on duty anyway?

Yes I did - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11917656

and its the same in Wales - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-12310518
