I hate, hate, hate designer celebrity charities - designed to raise celebrity profiles and make them look nice and guaranteed to contain bad, unfunny, low level entertainment excused because "it's in a good cause".

I love people who donate large sums of their hard earned cash anonymously, purely in order to benefit the needy.

A classic case of where the end justifies the means. Terrible TV, probably done for a variety of reasons by the participants. However, it does generate £m's for needy causes and has an infrastructure in place to quickly get the money to where its needed. Very few other efforts are as effective.

Sadly I fear that most of those kind enough to send in money are the ones who can afford it least, so the hectoring borders at times on the obscene. Comedians going around with cameras trying to get bankers, businessmen and politicians to pledge money and/or support aid - that would be far more logical and acceptable. They could also try being funny, but Lenny Henry is never going to be that.
