The power of Stephen Fry and Twitter (and JK's undiminished genius for knocking up a great tune).

I think the singing is great, although I'm probably the least knowledgeable person here on musical matters.

Has this song been officially released? I know there is an unofficial chart that takes into account youtube views. It would be interesting to see what number you are at.

So is this the 1972 recording or a re-record?

Either way after listening to it so many times it is now firmly planted in my brain and it definitely deserves to be a hit - it's a very, very catchy song.
The original 1972 story is a great one too and hopefully the banning and aborted TOTP playback episodes can be used to promote this new venture.

No; it is the original Angelettes recording from 1972; mimed to by our Sirens, three sensous lasses who crop up throughout the movie, commenting on the proceedings.

I agree - the backstory is fabulous and I've always believed this deserved to be a real hit; it charted at 35 in 1972 and stayed on the chart for 5 weeks.

I thought it was the 1972 version but the Youtube of that recording is very scratched so couldn't be 100% sure and as you have the master tapes there was a possibility of a hybrid.

Hope you can use some of the 1972 story to help the movie get attention. After hearing the song so many times in the last couple of days I can't believe it wasn't a hit when it was first released, I really do like it.
