Happy St George's Day ! 13 Years ago
This is a very British month, with the Royal Wedding, the Queen's birthday and St George's Day.

The St George's cross only conjurs up negativity. One thing the English have is lack of identity.

Well, I didn't even know it was St George's Day till I read your post.

As for the Queen and the "royal" wedding ... you have to go back many generations before you find any British blood in there - they are all Germans and Greeks !

Its less than 100 years since the Windsors actually changed their name to make then sound English / British !

It's more a case of the English never needing an identity before. The reason the Scots, Irish, and Welsh all go crazy on their days is because they are tiny insignificant celtic outposts culturally and economically dominated by England. Britain has always been seen as England, and 'England' seen as the dominant race in the UK. Just look at the film footage of the 1966 world cup final. Not a single st georges flag on display. All union jacks.

Now of course, England/Britain is dominated by the EU and America, and has had its soul and identity eaten out from within in the space of a decade by NuLabor's mass third world immigration policy. It has even lost power over the Celtic fringes. So an English nationalism is emerging. Problem is, England has always been seen as a (dominant) race, rather than a country, so in today's climate it's not easy to express pride in being English, especially as the far right and football hooligans were the first to identify themselves as English rather than British and to take pride in the flag of st george.

England has one of the greatest and remarkable histories in the world, it only lacks the ability to express and feel proud about its identity.

And speaking as a Scotsman, I'm not particularly proud to be at the fringe of an island outpost of a bureaucratic and undemocratic German dominated superstate of half a billion people.
