It should be fascinating; I've eaten some of the delicious Clink grub at the Longford Lecture event last year and met some of the cooks - a superb idea, brilliantly successful and significant in the extreme. Ken Clarke - don't miss it.

Well, I found that completely absorbing. Informative, frustrating, upsetting, moving and sometimes uplifting. I bet the greatest danger of those working with these young lads is the temptation to start treating cynicism as realism, because that will act as a carapace against the regulat disappointments.

An excellent show and every time I see a decent prison officer (there are hundreds - I've met dozens personally) like Miss Jackie, I wish they were running this country.

They care. And they never give up.

One of the many revelations of my time in prison was that inmates are frequently more talented, interesting and valuable human beings. Whether innocent or guilty, they tend to have defied the restrictions of society (some of which are needed; others of which suffocate individuality) and have qualities that make them amusing, inspiring and unusual. There is, of course, a bad side as well as a good one but - quite apart from many aspects - I found the prison population in general far more moral than the media world I'd inhabited before and continue to exist in since my incarceration.
