Tunisia 14 Years, 2 Months ago

Buried away in The Times during the week was an interesting piece about life in Tunisia since the Jasmine Revolution - life has hardly changed and only for the worse. No tourists, less money, conditions declining - all exactly as we expected.
Ben Ali may have had his faults - like Gaddafi and Mubarak and Assad and the others - indeed, I'm sure their records on civil liberties are very bad. But they also had advantages; whilst they squirrelled away personal wealth, life was reasonably well run.
Without them - less corruption, perhaps, and also less efficiency.
For the average citizen; life is worse, not better. And will be for some time until the system improves and, naturally, corruption starts to increase again... followed by another revolution.
When will they ever learn?
