Dominique Strauss-Kahn -I'm thinking conspiracy 12 Years, 11 Months ago
Pleased to see well known figures in France disgusted with the US manner of filming people in courts in handcuffs and the circus around it etc.
Sad to see the British media weaving tales of the sex lives of French politicians..mistresses and so on as an opportunity to comment on Strauss-Khan printing tittle tattle as though it must be true.
I don't buy it..a powerful figure 'raping' a cleaner in a hotel. I just don't buy it.

I am no conspiracy theorist, but my immediate reaction was that there is something very dodgy in all this.
Strauss-Kahn was shortly to announce his candidacy for the French Presidency next year and looked as tho he had good chances of trouncing Sarkozy. Sarkozy's UMP party had said that if DSK announced his candidacy they would use the 'nuclear option' on him. hmmmm......

Some former US police chief was on Radio 4's PM this evening saying that the New York police deliberately parade people in public in handcuffs looking tired and unshaven after a couple of days' interrogation in order to make them look defeated (and therefore guilty in the jury's eyes).

yes they did that to Russell Crowe but being a movie star it just made him look more glamorous.
I'm mindful of a huge case here about 10 years where a Chief of Detectives heading an enquiry into a serial rapist was arrested for the crimes in a bizarre case that was like a Hollywood movie and the same thing was done..publicly paraded etc.
The whole case collapsed and the 2 arresting detectives -one committed suicide and the other resigned and emigrated..it was so obviously a set-up but the desired affect was achieved. The man's life was destroyed and he died from a heart attack about 3 years later.

... and also to "encourage" others to come forward and "prop up" spurious claims ?

Indeed.
I just heard something shocking with regard to the practice of parading people accused of crimes in front of the cameras when they are unshaven and tired after days of interrogation.
Interviewed on the excellent French current affairs programme C'est Dans L'air a former New York mayor (I think, didn't get his exact title) said words to the effect of 'If you don't want to be paraded like that, don't commit a crime.' Errrrm, if DSK is guilty, let him get what he deserves, but why parade suspects like that?

Well, if Gordon gets the job, I'm sure that sex will be the last thing on his mind. You could say that he's definitely a safe pair of hands (and that's coming from the horse's mouth).
