I started out really wanting to like this, and it was very promising. It started out very well, showing cities such as Dhaka and Shanghai which, in spite of their size and inequalities, possessed pockets of real community and vitality.
However, the more it went on, the more it became anecdotal and stereotypival, i.e. Japanese people live in small flats so let's find someone who lives in a matchbox to illustrate this.
(I remember Michael Palin doing his series on 'The New Europe' and the programme on Budapest, which contained a lengthy segment on an elite fashion school- it probably took up more than 1/4 of the programme.....)
.... and then Marr ended his programme with a bit on London and how wonderful it is because we have flash mobs. I haven't seen one of those either.
Disappointed.
