Cabinet has proposed terms for the removal of the statute of limitations for sex crimes involving child victims. Parliament will have the final say.
The move is in response to a November 2008 vote when 52 per cent of voters accepted a people’s initiative to remove the prosecution time limit against paedophile criminals.

Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga said the government decided to increase the age limit for victims from 10 to 12 following recommendations by doctors’ organisations. The cabinet also defined the nature of the sexual crimes covered.

However, lifelong prosecution exception will not apply to people to possess or sell child pornography.

..To date only perpetrators of genocide, war crimes and terrorist acts are subject to lifelong prosecution in Switzerland.



So if you click on an '18 year old' amatuer porn tube video today, and the girl turns out to have been 17 1/2, you have to fear for the rest of your life prosecution for viewing child pornography. You're in the same category as genocidal maniacs and terrorists.

Just shows that democracy is flawed even when the population is intelligent and superbly educated (although I guess 99% would have voted for this bill in the UK).

it's a funny worded article I found hard to read.

"paedophile criminals" should have been alleged criminals so it's pretty clear this is another pedo panic charter for compo.

The oddest law is the one in Oz that now declares cartoons of children can be classes as child porn and one bloke has been banged up already for possessing one cartoon of Bart & Lisa Simpson doing something horrific.

But as I went to the launch of The Simpsons in Lindon over 20 years ago, Bart & Lisa must be young adults by now !..unless the cartoon was drawn when they were kids

Don't mistaken an education for intelligence. In modern times the value of an education is mostly based on what type of job you can get with it. We send people to college merely to serve the established order, not to question or challenge it. So it doesn't surprise me at all the Switzerland would go down the same road as every other dictatorship that calls itself a democracy.
