TOPIC: Our Miss Brooks

Our Miss Brooks 12 Years, 10 Months ago
(anyone else remember the show?)

With a grimace, Chris Bryant recalls the last time he met Rupert Murdoch's embattled lieutenant Rebekah Brooks face to face.

"She came up to me and said, 'Oh, Mr Bryant, it's after dark - shouldn't you be on Clapham Common?"

"At which point Ross Kemp [the ex-EastEnders actor and her then husband] said, 'Shut up, you homophobic cow'." The MP, who is openly gay, can afford to smile at the incident, which happened during a News International reception at the Labour Party conference several years ago.

good interview..

'Some MPs suspected a year ago but nobody would've believed it'

There is a kind of witch hunt going on here against Miss Brooks in a similar way to when suspected murderers/paedophiles are acccused and a lot of people on this site will rush to their defence. Most of us don't know the facts here, so shouldn't draw any conclusions.

well that would be ironic given that she's led a witchunt against hundreds or thousands of men in her time.

The undeniable fact is that she was in charge of a newsroom that hacked into the phone of a murdered kid, as well as terrorist victims, relatives of soldiers killed in Afghanistan. She allowed a culture in which these things were possible.

If she had any decency at all, she would resign, whether she had direct knowledge or not.

By the way, it is a shame we don't burn witches anymore.

I'll give you some facts, Robbie. "Miss" Brooks has definitely admitted that NoTW paid police officers. "Miss" Brooks was Editor of NoTW, which post carries along with it the ultimate terminus of the proverbial dollar. "Miss" Brooks was also - in a later incarnation - Chief Executive. See above. You have a charitable outlook on her character, and that does you credit. But I fear that in this instance your charity is probably misplaced. Incidentally who here defends suspected murderers or paedophiles? Why do you lump the two together? And when did peadophilia become a crime?

Sound recording of Rebekah Brooks' talk to NOTW employees this evening.

She speaks about a witch hunt by the BBC and Guardian. Never has Pot calling kettle black been more appropriate.

Ann Leslie on BBC News earlier suggested that Miss Brooks isn't very good - she had the opportunity of having the scoop regarding the MP's expenses scandal and turned it down because there weren't enough breasts, cocks etc in the story for her. The Telegraph took it - and there you go. It seems Miss Brooks couldn't see a story if it flashed on the arse of a Chippindale!
