My favourite (and I think the best) novel of this 11 year old century is Never Let Me Go; so I really worried about the film and so didn't go to it in the cinema but waited until the DVD release (this month). I've just watched it.

It's terrific. Not as great as the novel but wonderful. Charlotte Rampling and the three leads are superb. It's beautifully filmed and written. Great music.
Superb. Up there with Another Year and The King's Speech for me.

Rubbish. Its mediocre at best, with a good soundtrack.

Even Ishiguru has said that the actors who played the characters, particularly Tommy, are unlike how he imagined them to be.

I think the reason why the novel's effect is so profound, is that in the space of the day or two it takes to read it, you're somehow taken back to the innocent yearning of childhood and youth, and then reminded how the realities of adulthoood, and the way that the world works, not only made you 'let it go', but made you forget that you ever had it. The effect on many people is almost painfully sad.

That he can do this in a novel of under 300 pages is a work of genius. A film lasting a couple of hours couldn't hope to have the same effect. But if you've read the novel already, and you can identify the actors with the characters, as surprisingly you have been able to do, then it sounds like it can be a powerful fim.

I want to read the novel one more time before I see the movie.

Funnily enough I now want to reread the novel; but I felt it was very different from the book yet still very good. Nowhere near as great as the book but a tremendous movie in its own right.

I enjoyed the film, not read the book.

Charlotte Rampling though is true class. One of the finest actresses around I'd say.
