what about the ones who live in their own houses ?

Come one veritas ! Wake Up !

Very few of those who have worked and bought their own homes are living continually on benefits are they ?

I commenting on the plan to evict rioter's families.

There were indeed some from home owned families (they were shopped by family members) so they will not pay as dearer price as council tenants.

Anyway this discussion is pointless..I guarantee no judge will evict present tenants and indeed...I guarantee there will now be calls to make clauses in leases apply to individuals instead of a collective group of people.

It is an apalling concept and Cameron by drawing attention to it has exposed a flaw.

appeals to the European Court of Human Rights all round !!

Not again !
We've heard your guarantees before veritas - "no one would be evicted" (well eviction notices HAVE been issued).

Tenants HAVE to be responsible for anyone in their (subsidised) dwelling - otherwise anyone could run criminal activity/asb from there and the tenant could claim no responsibility.

You people HAVE to take responsibility some time veritas !

Your Australia "dole" Utopia does not seem to exist, veritas !

"On 1 July 2006, "Full Time Work for the Dole" was enacted for those seeking work for 12 months or more. They were directed towards a scheme identical to the standard form, except that the fortnightly hours of participation was increased to 50".

(ie They have to get out of bed !)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_for_the_Dole

There are, it appears, numerous other things (like means testing on benefits) and no old age pension (unless you desperately need it?)

"The Age pension was the first payment issued from the Commonwealth Government and dates back to 1909. It is available to men aged 65 years and over. The age for women to become eligible is being progressively phased upward from 60 to 65 years, in line with males. Women currently become eligible for the Age pension at 63 years and 6 months. Unlike pension payments of many other countries, workers do not contribute to a pension or insurance within Australia, and the payment is available subject to means testing. This ensures that only those that require assistance receive it.

are you looking through (loony Labour) rose-tinted glasses, veritas ?

Both clips below from The Australian -

"Because Australia's welfare system, including the age pension, is based on comprehensive means-testing, it costs less than most other countries, with total spending equivalent to 17.1 per cent of GDP. Among advanced countries only the US (15.9 per cent), Ireland (16.7 per cent) and Iceland (16.9 per cent) spend less. Most of the major European countries devote more than a quarter of their economy to payment of benefits".

"Australia also has one of the most comprehensive work-test regimes for people claiming unemployment benefits, backed by the sanction of withdrawing benefits for eight weeks".

You should refrain from ever quoting The Australian..it's Rupert Murdoch's most beloved loss making broad sheet that has been so discredited over the past 10 years with a tiny circulation, it's now a standing joke.

Yes..everything means tested but you have to basically a multi- millionaire to lose any benefits and the idiotic 'welfare to work' system (ten years now) affects about 1 in 50 unemployed and why ?..because it costs more to implement than money saved.

Be wary...when i tell you that every "brilliant" scheme announced by Cameron is a furphy and will be quietly dropped it's because it's been tried in Oz and failed.

you would hate New Zealand..no means testing there !

... no people either (but lots of sheep)!

I'll let you know - I'm going next year (Bay of Plenty area)

If "down under" is so good, veritas - why are more of them living in Earls Court that there are down there ?
