It's just easier for society to rely on the crutches of good and evil and punishment to solve their problems. That way the powerful don't have to take any responsibility and everyone, except those who society has scorned, get off the hook.

And this is why britian will never solve its problems and the same shit will repeat over and over again.

The system is broken Ted; corrupt police, bent media, weak judges, bored juries, crooked politicians, pathetic government and us masses only incited and excited by simplistic solutions to complex problems.

Hell in a handcart.

I've just written a long piece about my thoughts on the riots. And, looking back over it I've scrapped what was, I think, a thoughtful body of work. Why? Because no matter what any of us say there is one fact that is staring us in the face. The country is fucked. Why is it fucked? Because ever since Mrs Thatcher we've had the same message thrown at us, repeated and turned over ad nauseum, from politicians and governments who only actually care about their own careers and political skins. Jam tomorrow. The same message for the last 32 years. But tomorrow never comes, and it never will. That's why we are now into the third generation of families without work. That's why the kids riot. They see no future and why should - how could - they? There isn't one. Because those politicians have failed them - and us - for the best part of half a century. And they're going to keep on failing us. Wider society is no better, it feeds itself on brain-dead celebrities and vicarious sexual kicks. Those who rioted did so because no one cares that we're all being ridden like donkeys by the noble breed who govern us and no one is going to care because they're so busy being misdirected. Politicians? Society? Fuck 'em. Fuck everyone. I want to live somewhere else.

Can you name ANYWHERE else that would allow those that contribute so little to society to keep draining it ?

Nonsense - I sense a bit of guilt coming in here.

Let me give you some advice, david - when in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging !

The net is permanent - few people realise that.

Apart from wasting huge amounts of time (on "pretend" friends) you give away far too much information - which in some cases will come back to haunt you.

Wow. What an outburst that was. Makes me realize I'm actually fairly lucky. Because I'm articulate enough to be able to put my frustrations into words, something that not everyone is able to do. That's probably why they smash things up. How else are those less able to voice their disgust at the way we are being "led" further and further into oblivion to give vent to their feelings? I probably understand them a little better than perhaps I did before. We should condemn less and try to inspire more. But how? That's the challenge facing the country. I don't know how, but maybe setting a better example might be a good start. Because Christ knows the example we have been set for the last half century by our "betters" has surely sown the seeds of the mess we are now in. The gap - in terms of both cultural advantage and living standards - between those who represent and those represented has grown so wide that it is now a yawning chasm. It must be closed before we all fall into it.

Succinct and spot-on.
The morality from the top has dripped down to those at the bottom, unless "the big picture" is addressed nothing will get better.
Meanwhile, those "in the middle" cheer and applaud the rotters at the top as they make ridiculous statements about "the scum" whilst no doubt consoling themselves what great citizens they are by the media they consume. Fucktards on every level, all as immoral as each other.

I know many places where the sun is warmer, the people less downtrodden and generally happier. I know places where people are more broadminded and less reactionary.

I know places where people earn a decent living without feeling the need to carve up their colleagues in order to "get on".

I know places where people don't condemn one group of people who smash things up while electing another group of people who smash things up to Parliament.

You're not making the mistake of thinking I live on benefits are you?

Facebook is a wonderful tool for someone like me, and all my friends are real. I find it excellent for keeping in touch with friends in the various countries I've lived in. As I've moved around a lot it's been very easy to lose touch with people over the years, and Facebook has enabled me to find people I hadn't seen for almost 20 years and it's been a joy meeting up again.

No ... just wondering where this Utopia is !!!!

You seem to denigrate Britain so much but dont actually name your utopian country -

a country which supports people if they are ill, and

supports people if they are unemployed (and also supports them if they refuse to find work !), and

provides universal health care (even to people who have, and continue, to make themselves "ill" (druggies, alcoholics, fatties etc), and

provides reasonable prisons for those who have broken the law, and

provides true democratic process (which even you could enter !), and

has a free press (which even you could manipulate as much as anyone else !

Please, please tell me where this better utopia that you know of is !!! LOL

yes..on the other side of the world..and I'm living it for that very reason. Everything the UK has got but plenty of sunshine..the money buys twice as much..the social security net is far better.

..not one single bank collapsed...and why...because the government has such strict laws they can never get away with what UK, USA and Irish banks did (and consequently the Oz banks make record profits in the billions)..

the country avoided the 2008 financial meltdown and why ..the OECD, World Bank. Moodys etc all agree..the then PM gave every single welfare recipient (about 8 million people out of 23M) $2000 each with the order to spend spend spend..(they all got their flat screen TVs far cheaper than rioting) and tens of thousands of jobs not only saved..they were created !!

And reading history I see it elected the world's first socialist PM ( in 1900 ) and have carried on likewise since..

paradise !!! (you only have to watch Home & Away..it's no exageration ! )

(there's always somewhere better of course-in New Zealand they get even better welfare benefits!!)

More that 1 Ozzie in 3 is a scrounger?
You cannot be serious.

America did much the same - and now has the biggest debt in world history.
Things are never that simple, veritas.
What is Australia's national debt (and who do you expect to repay it?)

Good to see ITK,the forum clown managing to annoy just about everybody on the thread

Those of us who do travel the world could name quite a few countries with generous welfare systems. But of course as her world view is formed by reading The Sun,and as a trip out is a short hop away she's hardly likely to learn enough about anything to influence the debate in her favour!

Anyway today I visited Belgium and France, both of which have generous benefit systems,in fact most of western europe is more generous than us.Even today Eire pays out more than us on average for claimants.
Further afield Dubai is an interesting example. They have no oil,but most live lazily with state help. There are plenty more examples, but the point has now been made.

Carry on insulting, and we'll carry on laughing

odd..on one thread you say you are proud of social security and here you accuse every person receiving it as being a 'scrounger'.

Welfare in Oz includes a whole range of benefits like parenting payments (that working people also get) and so on. Unemployment (for a socialist democracy) is lower than anywhere else in the world/

Balance of payments / national debt is enviably low.

Future generations have to pay something towards the cost of previous ones hard work (unless you expect them to 'scrounge' off their ancestors)

You are just plain wrong about the USA : Until Reagan began dismantling FDR's welfare system (far better than the UK)..the USA had unprecedented growth that made it the richest country on earth.

The USA has indulged in 2 wars that are bankrupting it while at the same time lowering taxes (first time ever in the history of the world) to pay for them.

The USA is broke and it will get worse. Meanwhile China ( Communist) is almost the richest..Russia ( still socialist) could be as rich if it had a decent government..most European countries including Germany (all basically socialist) doing far better than the UK.

Nothing "odd" at all (unless you are loony Labour, then I couldn;t understand you not understanding common sense !).

The social security system is enviable ... what is NOT enviable is the numbers who will take take take all they can get (depriving more deserving people).

Its a safety-net - NOT a lifestyle choice !!!!

I'm afraid you're wasting your time ITK trying to argue with these people and their secular faiths and heresies.

It's only when it becomes obvious that they personally will have their quality of life destroyed by the breakdown of personal responsibility and social cohesion that they might be willing to discuss solutions rationally without screaming a variety of -ists at you. We haven't quite reached that point so in the meantime they prefer to cling to their cultural Marxist white middle-class comfort faiths. It allows them to retain their white middle-class material privilages, keep the working class (including and especially the blacks) down, as well as giving themselves a sense of bogus moral superiority. I met many such people when I was at university. In fact 90% of the people at University were like this. You would get more profit out of debating with a crazed Islamic fundamentalist.

Of course, when the necessities of the real world finally allow them to abandon their cognitive delusions it will be far too late.
