Re:Reuters reporting that Tripoli is encircled - all supply routes cut off 12 Years, 9 Months ago
With all the money and weapons at NATO's disposal it's a miracle he survived so long, but if you knew anything about the Arab world you would know the real challenge is to rule after the victory.
Iraq and Afghan campaigns would tell all but the ignorant to be wary of this.

we in the West have never understood the Arabs ( except Lawrence which is what made him unique).
The intrigues amongst themselves- we are not privy to those.

I think I now do understand (and love) them; and they often tell me I'm one of the few Westerners who appears to understand their culture and mentality and society.

Makes me wonder, then ... why you have been so pro-Gaddafi and wanted to subject the citizens to even more of his tyranny ?
So, the new government may not be any better - thats not our choice. What matters is that we HELP the citizens (who now control almost 98% of the country) to get rid of a tyrant and replace him with whatever sort of democracy THEY want ?
Re:Reuters reporting that Tripoli is encircled - all supply routes cut off 12 Years, 9 Months ago
I'm not pro-Gaddafi;he sounds like a terrible dictator but I've always felt that we should not interfere; just as NATO should not have bombed London in support of the rioters here. And I will bet he had many good points and did a lot to unify and strengthen Libya. If he is overthrown the replacement will be a mess. Look what happened when they overthrew the Shah in Iran.
Re:Reuters reporting that Tripoli is encircled - all supply routes cut off 12 Years, 9 Months ago
That's your problem, ITK. I've never seen anything written here by anyone which was pro Gadaffi. I've seen lots which was aimed at the hypocrisy of politicians who pick and choose what they see as tyranny. That you fail to see what the rest of us see should come as no surprise. There's more to life - and living - than seeing only what you want to see.
Re:Reuters reporting that Tripoli is encircled - all supply routes cut off 12 Years, 9 Months ago
It seems very few people "get" what is happening to Gaddafi, or why.
The main reason he had such a fall from grace in the past 2 or 3 years is his desire to see a unified Africa assert itself against the Zionist Oppressors. This is why he went from photo shoots with Western Leaders like B-Liar to being invaded and overthrown by rent-a-rebels.
America sees its survival now hinging on wholesale pillage of African natural resources - which is why they decided the time was ready for a black face in the Whitehouse.
Gaddafi may be a cunt - the majority of leaders are in all walks of life, never mind dictators of nations. If that was the criteria for NATO-sponsered invasions the world would be awash with was in every state.
Time to wake up.
Re:Reuters reporting that Tripoli is encircled - all supply routes cut off 12 Years, 9 Months ago
I think it's an exaggeration to say that "almost 98% of the country" is controlled by the rebels. Many of the citizens have fled, some to abroad, some just in hiding to avoid the fighting. Some have "disappeared" once the rebels have taken control of the area.
It is fairly likely that Gaddafi will lose the war but not because the rebels fought a good fight, (they were hopeless on their own) but because NATO decided to engage in regime change. The UK in particular have behaved very dishonourably. At the end of the day, any new regime might be worst that the old one.

Don't forget the fact most of it also comes straight out The Sun
Do wonder why this particular poster continues to visit this place, when absolutely nobody agrees with their opinions?

Most of my comments, JK, are answering statements actually made by other posters - and I always include their quote to show what I'm answering.
