A Tale of Two Cities - the movie 12 Years, 8 Months ago
Well I've watched and thoroughly enjoyed the film; though far less intricate and brilliant than the novel (rather like Never Let Me Go) it's a terrific movie; I love Dirk Bogarde, Rosalie Crutchley is quite marvellous as Madame Defarge though she is a far more complex and sympathetic villainess in the book. For £3.99 - a true Amazon bargain. But it should be made again; such a cracking story.
And surely Sydney Carton is one of the greatest of all fiction characters. Dickens is sometimes (wrongly) criticised for drawing caricatures but Carton is magnificently complex and unusual. I cannot express here how wonderful and intelligent the novel is, and how topical and apposite at this time when revolution is once more in the air and not just in North Africa.
