Soldier on sex register a 'travesty' 12 Years, 9 Months ago
a sensible magistrate on a vindictive and meaningless Dickensian authoritarian law that destroys young lives:

A Victorian judge has said it was a "travesty"
that she had to register a young Australian soldier as a sex offender.

Mitchell John Neville Blake was 19 when he had sex with two underage girls, aged 15 and 14, after a night out in Malsmbury on April 10, 2010.

Judge Lisa Hannan she had no choice but to register Blake as a sex offender for life, despite the fact the sex was consensual.

"This is nothing more than a travesty. I have no choice," she said during Blake's pre-sentence hearing in the Victorian County Court on Friday.

The judge probably fancies 15 year old girls herself and is suffering from cognitive distortions.

I was one for Christ's sake!

Actually she was obeying the law,but allowing herself the luxury of putting an opinion on it.
As you and ITK are so out of step with the rest of us here go open your own board, then you can argue between yourselves...we're obviously not up to your high standards

I was actually speaking on behalf of Locked Out. Of course it's a travesty, and it's heartening to see a judge speaking out on such an absurd law, particularly a female judge (although I guess the very reason male judges are so reluctant to speak out is because they are more likely to be accused of cognitive distortions).

"it's heartening to see a judge speaking out on such an absurd law"

You still want the age of consent scrapped, then.

It's completely normal to be attracted to adolescents. Branding people as perverts for having harmless sex with them is obviously pointless.

re: the age of consent .. I think the world would be a better place if the law was applied equally to everybody regardless of age, colour, belief, sexuality, etc. The important thing is to treat everybody with respect. The "civilised" world tends to forget that.

Ever notice how consent only becomes a big deal when it involves sex? I know there's drinking ages but those aren't treated with nearly as much severity unless someone dies as a result of it. Nobody cares if a young person is neglected, forced out on the streets, thrown in prison, nobody cares how many children die as a result of war or starvation, nobody cares if they're being forced/brainwashed into a religion or playing violent video games all day long or getting fat off too much junk food...but as soon as someone touches their no no spot it's the fucking end of the world. People act as if sex with someone below the age of consent is the worse thing ever and they treat the perpetrator as a complete monster, worse than a serial killer. It's pretty ridiculous. Probably a throwback to our puritan roots.

The Netherlands had the most sensible laws about sex and age of consent. All sorts of factors could be taken into account..whether there was coercion or were the two (no matter what the age difference) really fond of each other and so on.

all gone because the UK and USA cannot stand sensible thinking and want every aspect of life regulated to the nth degree.
