Superb on BBC Brekkie - I'm dying to see Tinker, Tailor...

Stephen Fry told me a wonderful story about when he was making the film V For Vendetta in Germany and having dinner with Hurt and the actor playing the lead (in a mask) who spent the entire meal saying how impossible it was to act whilst in prosthetics. Fry and Hurt just looked at each other (Elephant Man).

The actor subsequently left the cast early.

As the dear and much-missed Quentin Crisp - a glorious performance.

He was very, very good in a film called The Wild and the Willing, which was filmed in of all places Lincoln. I believe he even lived and was educated in Lincoln for a while as well. Sadly the film isn't on DVD but I managed to get a print from somewhere The cast is a pot pourri of British film and television and was also Ian McShane's first ever professional work on film.

I love the end to that production, so full of hope which I can feel myself despite being a "100% crumpet man" as Harold Steptoe would put it.
