May well have been a nice bloke - but just another British 'B movie actor'
More 'famous' deaths are to follow from all sides of life. Always, my question is 'what added value did this person really add to the world?'
For example -
Duke of Edinburgh
Duke Of York
Sarah Ferguson
Paul Daniels
Hardy..the bad actor in the vet series
Gazza
The fat singing fool in the insurance ad
Old news readers
Neil Kinnock
Sooty
However, their obituraries will be long, boring and full of praise!

Don't you just love the sort of person who comes up with things like that... always makes me laugh. The fact is that Kenneth More was never any bloody different whether he was playing Jo Forsyte or Douglas Bader {and two more diametrically opposed characters you could never have met or, in the case of Forsyte, imagined}... always the same diffident, lovable bloke, laughing cheerfully as he either got disinherited by his father or had his legs chopped off. For all his complete lack of breadth he was well loved and {and here's the rub} never out of work. I've always loved his films despite his failings. I'm reminded, looking at Rita's grudging post, of those people who scoff at those who have one number one hit record then sink without trace, labeling them "one hit wonders" and utterly fail to notice that one hit is infinitely more success than that huge majority of recording artists who never make any impression whatsoever {and I'm sure that UK Records never had any of those... as one of those recently referred to as a sycophant I thought I'd better just chuck that one in}.
My last posting for a bit, I'd expect, as I'm off to Rome very early on Monday morning. Back in a little over a week, behave yourselves while I'm away.

Better a 'B' actor than a third rate poster
Apart from JK, most - including me, are low level posters.
At least Rita was has a tongue (in cheek) and is thought provoking.
In addition, she - unlike IA - does not just post...an insult. That's easy

Kenneth More was never out of work because he was essentially likeable, everyone's favourite dad, son, brother, uncle... and no, versatility wasn't his strong suit, but the audiences were always happy to spend 90 minutes in his company, and that's not as easy as it sounds. My particular favourites of his are "The 39 Steps", "The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw", "The Admirable Crichton" (despite the awful ending), and the genuine classic-of-its-kind "Genevieve."

I am sure Jammie meant to type WW1.
A fine story and one of the first 'on the run' novels.
Buchan wrote the book in a Broadstairs nursing home where he was having treatment for an ulcer. His young niece, who had just learned to count, told him one day that there were 39 steps in the stairway down to the beach.
