Well IA, you may well have seen the 39 steps then; they still exist, though now in concrete. They run from the garden of the old nursing home (St Cuby, Cliff Promenade) down to the beach.

Went to a Sooty live performance a few years ago. Very easy to see why the yellow bear has remained popular. Real entertainment.

Innocent Accused
I lived in Shipley, round the corner from Sooty world back in 1990.
I then moved 2 streets away from the Ripper's wife Sonya in Heaton, know which one I'd prefer

I know someone who was traumatised as a kid because of Sooty. His parents had taken him backstage to get an autograph from Harry Corbett and maybe a picture with Sooty himself, but Corbett's last 'fire-eating' trick had gone slightly wrong and he came running backstage with Sooty covered in smoke. 'Burnt the bugger,' muttered Corbett as he hurled the charred glove puppet into the bin, where the remains of two others were already deposited. And so childhood ends.
