TOPIC: Drive - OK but not great

Drive - OK but not great 12 Years, 7 Months ago
Typical Hollywood gore fest - lots of blood; takes ages to get going; one of the worst directed movies I've seen in ages (he won Best Director in Cannes - stick to swearing on BBC Brekkie I say); all style and cleverness; appalling sound - you cannot hear the dialogue which is perhaps just as well and it's unimportant; I fail to see the charm of Ryan Gosling - like Gary Oldman in TTSS non-acting appears to be the flavour of the moment; Carey Mulligan is nowhere near as good as she was in both Education and Never... a decent enough movie but nothing special. "Let's hold that shot for even longer" doesn't cut it with me I'm afraid. But good use of ketchup.

I found it to be one smoldering scene after another. Gosling has very little dialogue, as does Mulligan. Most of the characters have very little back story, so we don't really feel attached to them. Standard is one of the more interesting characters, but he's not in it for very long. That said the cinematography was good as were the stunts.
