They've got no money
They are in debt up to their eyeballs
... so they go on strike !!!
What for?
Do they expect the money fairy to descend and give them something ?
We could never be so silly here, could we?
(TUC plans "day of action" in November - "Four unions balloted in the summer and held a one-day strike on June 30. Ten more announced ballot plans at the TUC conference last week.
The TUC plans to hold a day of action on November 30, in what Mr Barber has called the "biggest mobilisation of industrial action for a generation". FROM - news.sky.com/home/politics/article/16075281
all together now .... OH YES WE COULD !!!

In The Know-you really miss the point every time.
The reason Greeks are going on strike is for the exact same reason people marched in Britain and why they are occupying Wall Street at present.
Trying to get the message across that the bankers blew it in Greece as well, got bailed out by the taxpayer (with no obligation) and now the taxpayer is expected to bear the fucking pain because of a situation not of their making.
For God's sake, pay attention.
and stop sounding so delighted the Greek nation is going through a trauma..their dramas could well become yours.

No, my dear veritas - it is YOU who always manages to miss the point !
My question was " WHY are they on strike?" What do they hope to achieve ? (apart from driving their country further down the pan).
They cant get the cuts reversed - there is no money !
They can achieve absolutely nothing except further disruption (no wonder the loony Unions are behind it !)
THAT is the point !

Veritas is spot on. People are fed up of bearing

Why is Greece in trouble?
Greece has been living beyond its means in recent years, and its rising level of debt has placed a huge strain on the country's economy.
The Greek government borrowed heavily and went on something of a spending spree after it adopted the euro.
Public spending soared and public sector wages practically doubled in the past decade.
However, as the money flowed out of the government's coffers, tax income was hit because of widespread tax evasion.
When the global financial downturn hit, Greece was ill-prepared to cope.
It was given 110bn euros of bailout loans to help it get through the crisis - and has now been earmarked to recieve another 109bn euros.
But many fear that will not be enough.
