50% of allegations false... 12 Years, 6 Months ago
Buried away on P11 of today's Sunday Times it is grudgingly revealed that 50% of allegations against teachers are unfounded, malicious and false.
No mention of other false accusations and the reasons for them (like against celebrities - huge media fees, fame, sympathy).
Very slowly the truth is emerging but sadly it will be ignored - after all, it's not a good story and the opposite - Coronation Street star accused - is a far better headline.

Advertised in the Culture section a new book called The Conspiracy - available on Amazon. About false accusations against a Catholic priest. Nobody seems to notice the main targets of Satan's campaign.

But that's the depressing thing. It IS a good story. Any decent journalist knows that.
It's a good story in that it's a bums on seats story and sells newspapers to a barely literate audience. Oh dear, did I just say that and I grew up in a council house? Oh dear oh dear. But it's true though.

Watergate didn't exactly bore ordinary people. It's utterly specious to suggest that journalists don't tell this story because it won't sell papers - it would sell masses of papers.
