Our towns are full of beggars, one cheeky chappie came up to me as I sat outside my favorite Thai Cafe and asked me for 40p for the phone. When I pointed out he could have had the money had he not have bought the can of white cider in his hand he was most indignant!

Child beggars, something I see a lot in eastern europe and asia, but we're now a global economy,so we have to take the good with the bad.

Homelessness particularly in London is often perpetuated by people giving to beggars. Never give money to a beggar as you aren't doing them any favours. Give them advice if you can, but not cash.

Mixed emotions. Sad for the kids and angry at whoever's behind it.

with quite a big gap between my leaving London and first return- i was completely shocked to see the large amount of homelessness that had happened within a few years.

More worryingly, having lived in new York I thought this will become the norm and accepted and so it has come to pass.

Sorry Mr Fats but I always give to beggars. It's become a habit since my frequent visits to Asia where I carry a mass of small notes to hand out..afraid of my karma and may be re-born with no legs etc and forced to beg myself.

However I am sure In The Know will have a perfect way of dealing with these scroungers.

Quite right, FC.

You are just perpetuating the situation (assuming, of course, that they are really destitute and not just topping-up the benefits they already claim under 15 different names !!!)

If they're already in receipt of 15 lots of benefits why are they begging?
If I had that kind of income I'd be down the pub, not hanging around on street corners with the arse out of my trousers.

I think it's more likely that the people you are talking about are genuinely skint. I'd look for that compassion app on your new toy if I were you.

If you had actually SEEN the programme we are talking about then you would realise that they WERE in receipt of multiple benefits and had mansions back in their own Country.

Apologies, I indeed haven't seen the programme.

I thought you were just doing your usual "scroungers" routine, which is possibly understandable.
