Syria Next !!!! 12 Years, 6 Months ago
"The death of the dictator will reverberate around the region with many leaders nervously watching for continuing signs of agitation for freedoms among their populations.

The death will be felt the most in Syria, where President Assad will be wondering if he, too, may suffer a similar fate as what is slowly becoming a civil war grinds on".

Dreams ITK,both Russia and china are on record as refusing to support any UN involvement in Syria, and both countries have extensive trade dealings there they would not want to jeapordise.
Oh and let's not forget Syria has a powerful military force that may actually fight back, the west only goes after weak targets.

All below from BBC News - www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15712876

The head of the Arab League, Nabil al-Arabi, said the organisation was "studying mechanisms it could implement to protect civilians in Syria".

He spoke after the League voted to freeze Syria's membership.

France has joined the condemnation of President Bashar al-Assad's government.

It summoned the Syrian ambassador to Paris on Sunday to demand an explanation for attacks by Assad loyalists on diplomatic missions in Syria, including its own, following Saturday's suspension.

Turkey, which has begun withdrawing non-essential diplomatic personnel and families of diplomatic staff, called on the international community to "respond with a united voice to the serious developments in Syria".

Speaking on a visit to the Libyan capital Tripoli, the Arab League's secretary general did not give details of what further action the organisation could take to protect Syrian civilians.

Describing the 22-member League's decision to suspend Syria as "historic", Mr Arabi called for "international protection" for civilians as the League lacked the means to act alone.

"There is nothing wrong with going to the UN Security Council because it is the only organisation able to impose" such measures, he added.

Looks as if the peaceful protests (met with guns and killings) has now turned violent on both sides.

Thats what happens when you ignore desperate people crying out for help.

Indeed, Kevin.

Arab League approves sanctions - www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15901360 - and has anyone else noticed just how the despotic Arab states are starting to listen to their people?

Bahrain? Yemen?

The loony Gaddafi did some good after all !

The Syrian people are getting bolder and stronger.

They now control parts of the capital as well as some smaller towns. Quite an achievement against a repressive nazi-like regime.

Onwards and Upwards !

from Jeremy Bowen (BBC News) -

A convoy of journalists, without regime minders, went alone to Saqba, a poor district about 20 minutes from central Damascus, where a funeral was due to happen of a man killed by the Assad regime's forces.

Once we left the centre we saw no regime security men. Then on the edge of Saqba we came upon several dozen armed and masked fighters from the Free Syria Army.

Local people said that the intelligence and police conducted operations in the area, sometimes a couple of times a week, sometimes every night.

It's clear that the regime forces, when they deploy enough men, can enter the rebellious suburbs of Damascus. But they do not appear to have the force to hold them.

One of Syria's leading businessmen says its economy is being crippled by foreign sanctions and that the government is slowly disintegrating.

Faisal al-Qudsi, the son of a former Syrian president, told the BBC the military action could only last six months and then there would be "millions of people on the streets".
