Why has no one mentioned Tunisia ???? 12 Years, 6 Months ago
Today, in Tunisia, where the Arab Spring was set in motion earlier this year, the first free election is taking place.

Tunisians will elect a 217-seat assembly, with the responsibility of creating a new constitution and interim government.

Oh some of us (me) are watching Tunisia like mad; my personal country (with Maroc); dozens of friends there.

The Islamic party looks like winning a landslide. Get ready for a ban on women working and lots more situations like this.

The Islamist party has said that it does not want the country to be ruled by so-called Islamic law, that it wants a pluralistic democracy. We may be sceptical, but they may be telling the truth.
Time will tell.

Personally I think things look better in Tunisia than in either Egypt or Libya. But then what do I know?

The report I read was that many were jostling for the cabinet positions that provide the opportunity for the most graft.

Well it looks like the Islamic Party will win; I keep my fingers crossed that the result will be beneficial. I love the country and its people - very affectionate, sweet, kind, cultured, educated and intelligent (but much thanks to the previous two regimes despite all their faults - like banning You Tube - you can get it fine there now - see my videos).

I've seen 39 nights - all inclusive - in Sousse departing Jan 4th for just £580 at the travel agents this morning. I cant afford to stay at home for that !!!

Seems they are very keen to build their tourist trade.

Thats up to them, JK - its their country.

Personally I think the help given by the West (in Libya) will go along way to countering previous examples (invading !!!) that the Arabs have become used to.
