TOPIC: Tintin - terrific

Tintin - terrific 12 Years, 6 Months ago
Just went to Tintin at the Vue Westfield (their Scene screens are very comfortable and not crowded though Westfield was packed) - thought it was marvellous; Spielberg right back on form. Best of all - it really conveyed the spirit of the books (my generation was brought up on Tintin and Asterix).

Haddock wonderful; Snowy fabulous and Jamie Bell best of all.

3D well worth it.

I admit to not being a fan of 3D, but I would like to see this.

My only problem with 3D is that it darkens the picture; bright colours go pale.

spot on..I love 3D but the 'darkness' gets on my nerves.

But my idea of heaven is seeing a movie in 3D in an IMAX theatre. Loved Alice in Wonderland.

Splendid interview with Spielberg on BBC Brekkie - yes, Tintin is a great success for exactly the reason I thought - it is so true to the style and spirit of Herge.

I didn't realise Peter Jackson was involved - now I see why.

Way back in the good old days, when I was a regular on The News Quiz (the BBC Radio 4 parent of Have I Got News...) a fellow panelist Richard Ingrams (founder of Private Eye) used Tintin as his nickname for Ned Sherrin!

Many critics are calling it flat; I think that's what I liked about it; the way Jackson and Spielberg have captured the flat feel of the printed page whilst making it 3D. And everyone criticises Tintin for being dull; that's the whole point - he's meant to be dull; he reflects the caricature eccentrics around him. Snowy, not Tintin, is the hero, as in the books.

JK- the nickname for the recently deposed Oz PM Kevin Rudd is TinTin for the obvious reason he looks like him but why Ned Sherrin ? That one escapes me.

Your review sounds pretty correct. Even reading Tin Tin comix as I did when young and even though they were exciting Tin Tin was never really an over whelming character, just the central point which the action happened around.

A bit like the Famous Five who had amazing adventures surrounding them but mainly spent their time sharing a piece of chocolate while trapped in a smugglers lair and rushing home to feast on lettuce sandwiches.

Sherrin used to sport a TinTin-style quiff. I don't know if that was the reason.

Tintin? Dull? I've hit upon an idea that might sell like hot cakes. The Fat Controller's Adventures of Andy Murray!

It's worth a try.
