What is it that celebs would like to see happen? I'm not sure I understand. Forgive me. But in one breath they wish to see more regulation...but that would ultimately mean less publicity. To be honest I think it's all bollocks.
So what celebrities want is a restricted and regulated press?
I'm not at all convinced. They have to decide themselves wether or not a free press is important.
If not then the only alternative is regulation and stricter rules.
As far as I'm aware Hugh Grant does not want a free press and would sooner see tighter laws and regulations. Which is he asked for when appearing on Question Time.
Garry Flitcroft, whether because he's a Northerner or a footballer or perhaps just thick, seems to have serious cognitive distortion problems and appears to be quite incapable of expressing himself or of understanding simple questions.
And he does no service to the cause; he legitimately had affairs which, sadly for him, the press should have been quite able to publish.

But I doubt all celebs think that way.
I think Hugh is pushing his luck on the 'my private life is private' angle. And yes most 'slebs' would cut their granny's throat for a front page Sun story.
I still want a free press but I'm not worried about celebrities..it's the ordinary person who should have the ability to get retractions or some sort of re-dress..you know the errant vicars and such.
As it is- the rich have access to libel laws and the poor don't which means a two-tiered system of law.
And what other profit making industry in the land demands 'self regulation" (I'm sure they all would love to)..that is a complete joke. They simply cannot be trusted and are basically bullies.
The Mary-Ellen Field / Elle McPherson saga is most illuminating ..(and Elle looking very bad having taken a job with Murdoch's daughter and not apologising).
a great example of the damage done but for every high profile case there are hundred people out their in the suburbs whe have suffered similarly.
Don't forget the TV star crucified because he holidayed in Sri Lanka and was accused of all sorts of faleshoods...career finished.
and then of course the setting up of Gary Glitter...a slow burner that will explode at some stage.
now you know why Murdoch is retiring to a country property in Victoria.
Mark Lewis not bad...
Although I'm getting worried by several lawyers going "a..a..a..a.." before they speak and breaking off mid sentence to start another.
Max Moseley seemed rather good I thought; Siena Miller so-so; JK Rowling reasonable.
The good old legal method of suffocating truth with boredom is working well; soon we'll be nearly comatose; then the Devil's ultimate weapon will be unveiled...
