Gary Speed dies

Devastating news that the Wales manager has taken his own life at the age of 42.

The news is incomprehensible since Gary was doing very well in his career at the moment, with a succession of wins. A seemingly happy family, a good looking and healthy man, the news is a major blow to his family and fellow players.

Extraordinary and strange; these apparently meaningless suicides (like the Bridgend ones) always alarm and puzzle people. What happens?

Can't help but think there is a scandal involved in this somewhere. He was on "Football Focus" yesterday looking good and as has already been said his career with Wales has been going very well.

Potential shame of some variety is the only thing I can think would make someone do this and his high profile would ensure the tabloids would get in on the story. He was very close to Ryan Giggs so would know exactly what the media was capable of.

More will come out,whatever the motivation my sympathies to those involved.

I attempted suicide 2 years ago. With me it was a dark, dark cloud that goes over you that means you want to simply switch off and never wake up. I'm not saying there is no 'conspiracy angle', but maybe sometimes the simplest, darkest solution - as Douglas Adams called it, the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul, is what it's really all about.

This sounds like more of an accidental death than suicide. But none of us need to know any more...RIP.

Yes - many years ago I discovered a strange (to me) phenomenon called Auto Eroticism; this may be the answer although, if so, people tend to keep such things quiet.

I think its just you, he's much better looking than Rob Brydon. He was on strictly in the audience a few weeks ago and I thought it was Joe Calzagi.
