He's a wanker and a spoon faced eunuch who obeys tabloid slogan morality and is brain dead.

Protect British sovereignty (we run our country so well)... protect our financial centre and bankers (such lovely people - and so competent)... allow the British public (morons) to say how things should be run (give us more money, give us more money)...

Makes me vomit.

One more step back into the shadows and onto the fringes. I'm willing to speculate that in three years' time the Conservative Party will be led by Boris Johnson and out of Europe altogether. And it'll be a cold, lonely place. But at least all those horrible eastern Europeans, Frogs, Wops, Krauts and Dagos will have been sent packing. Which I suppose will make a lot of people very happy.

Protecting soverignty IS important, but obviously this has nothing to do with such a thing and the attempt at macho posturing is just embarrassing. Mind you, just as much humbug is evident from the dreadful double act of Merkel and Sarkozy, who look like they've just escaped from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The sooner they ditch this idiotic claim about the need for 'European unity' and just concentrate on pragmatic trade deals the better. 'Britain' is a bad enough cultural abstraction - 'Europe' is far more absurd. The great problem with the various national leaders is they're deluded by this childish belief in cultural, and political, union. You might as well wait for Santa Claus to arrive.

Bring back Maggie, she has more bollocks than Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron/Clegg put together.

Utterly useless Cameron does what the media will paint as "strong" - actually weak, thoughtless, foolish and dumb. What else do we expect?

Cameron is an amateur, he hasn't a clue. And that's a bit scary.

I dont care what Cameron's reasons were .... he's standing up for Britain and stopping us being sucked even further down the Euro-drainpipe.

Actually he was in a lose / lose situation because he was going to be criticised whatever he did.

So where to Britain? We know the German/French alliance will make the EU
into a powerhouse so will Britain pull out now? and who will they align themselves to?

I doubt your alliance will have many centimes left to be a powerhouse with!

Lots of countries smaller and less developed are not in 'alliances'.doesn't stop them getting on with it.

The moment that David Cameron lost his EU argument

"The much-discussed Financial Transactions Tax issue already requires unanimity and therefore could never be imposed on the City of London without Britain's agreement. What is more, as was pointed out in Brussels with some vehemence, when it comes to financial services there have hardly ever been any cases of Britain being outvoted in the adoption of such legislation.

In simple terms, that means that Britain's request to move to unanimity was taken as a huge ask that had nothing to do with the subject at hand (saving the euro) or was a sign of bad faith (because it is driven by mistrust regarding future legislation).
(...)
A hostile view of this is that Mr Cameron overplayed his hand. In this version of events, the British prime minister thought the mood of the room was running towards Protocol 12, and because Protocol 12 is decided by unanimity, he thought he had the whip hand.
(...)
Did Mr Cameron miscalculate? Did he want to end up with a treaty being crafted at almost 26, with Britain on the outside? My source is certain that was not Mr Cameron's goal, and my source is not alone in this thinking."
